Share your morning routine.
What is my morning routine? Well, that’s a loaded question. My dive into the world of writing was one that I didn’t take lightly. My husband and I are both artists. Howie has several creative careers; for starters, he’s a professional musician and a mason which takes both finesse and stamina. A flying V is heavier than it looks, and well rocks are just heavy. Both of us are also professional photographers, and that makes writing my second creative career. So, my mornings are dictated by whether it’s a photography day or a writing day.
For photography, there’s a lot of prep work, from schedules and client requests, I visualize the day, and the rest is equipment checks and loading up. If it’s an edit day, it’s breakfast, a binge-watch is picked out, and I get going…
When it comes to writing, I haven’t really formed a routine, but it usually consists of rereading what I wrote the day before while I eat breakfast, then I might do some research into the ideas I have planned to incorporate into my next chapters.
The one thing that all my mornings have in common is that the time of day is never set. Some days start at 4 am, some days end at 9 am and other days my morning might be 5 pm. It wreaks havoc on my dogs’ sleep schedule, but luckily, they’re flexible just like I have to be. Creativity has a quiet muse. You need to be in the right frame of mind to hear it, so I’m lucky I get to change up my schedule to fit the requirements of all my jobs. I may have more than one, but at the end of the day, they all feel the same way: accomplished.
